Swamp Gas is a rags to riches to rags to riches musical comedy that takes a silly, yet acerbic look at the Nashville music scene of the ’60’s. With over thirty original songs by (Sondheim discovery and protegee) Jack Eric Williams, the audience is treated to the best of musical theatre and a Country Music retrospective at the same time.

Needed: Principal Characters and Stage Manager.

Principal Characters:

Crash Watson: M, mid to late 20’s: Prolific, talented, aspiring song writer who can’t get a break. Texas twang. A young Townes Van Zandt, Willy Nelson, Charlie Pride. Baritone.

Vydell Harnett: M, early 30’s: Traveling salesman par excellence with jim-cracks and gee-gaws you never knew you wanted. Texas twang, high energy, charming extrovert. Trailer Trash and proud of it. Loyal, loving and clueless.Tenor.

Tulip Ann Pardue: F, early 30’s. Vydell’s true love and traveling companion. Texas twang, sweet but tough. Tired of the road and wants to settle down. Soprano.

Sharmayne Blickett: F, mid-40’s to 50’s. Manager mom of the Blackett Family. Matronly, smart and protective of her family. Alto

Wicker Blickest: M, late 40’s to 50’s. Husband to Sharmayne and owner of Music City Memoria-tel. A curmudgeonly, sentimental patriot and patriarch. Baritone

Shirleene Blickett: F, late 20’s. Sharmayne’s andWicker’s talented daughter. Ultra-alt psychic singer and motel maid. Soprano 1, 2 or Alto
Sherlayne Blickett: F, mid 20’s. Sharmayne’s and Wicker’s talented daughter. Ultra-alt psychic singer and motel maid.S1, S2 orA1.

Leticia “Letty” Hunnicutt: F. 60’s. Nashville matron of the arts. Bluestocking. S2

Big Bob Frazier: M. Late 30’s.l Ubiquitous, high energy and enthusiastic radio personality. Bass

All principals will read other characters.
Compensation: $20/hr and a lunch.
This project will entail two days of work; one full day of rehearsal (lunch provided) and the second day a run through with no stops.

The purpose of this exercise is for the book writer, producer and director to hear the new libretto. Therefore, no singing will be required. Recorded music will be used.
Participants will receive scripts beforehand and are expected to have read it entirely before the first rehearsal.

Work dates: either 9/17/25 and 9/18/25; or, 9/24/25 and 9/25/25.

Location: Oberlin. Exact venue TBD.
