Medusa Undone
By Bella Poynton
Directed by Stephanie Wilbert
Lorain County Community College announces non-equity auditions for our
upcoming production of *Medusa Undone.* We are seeking 5-8 performers and
various production positions for this production.
Story Synopsis: A theatrical retelling of the little-known Medusa origin
story. Before she was one of the greatest mythical monsters of all time,
Medusa was a kind, beautiful sea-nymph in Athena's service. Unparalleled in
both her beauty and devotion to the Gods, Medusa catches the eye of the
charming but narcissistic Poseidon. Interested only in the passions of the
spirit, and not the flesh, Medusa feels she has no choice but to reject the
greedy God. For this, she not only suffers violence at the hand of
Poseidon, but also incites a deep-seated jealousy in Athena, with horrific
and disturbing consequences. *Medusa Undone* explores how rape culture
reverberates through the ages, and calls attention to the great injustice
suffered by female victims of abuse.
*Roles are available for actors of all genders, ages 18 and older.*
- *Medusa*: Female, twenties, a mortal woman from the sea.
- *Athena Nike*: Female or nonbinary, thirties to forties, the Goddess
of War and Strategy.
- *Poseidon*: Male, thirties, the God of the Sea.
- *Stheno*: Female or nonbinary, thirties, Medusa's immortal sea-gorgon
sister.
- *Xenoclea (Xena)*: Female, forties to sixties, the high priestess at
the Temple of Athena.
LCCC Theatre embraces diversity and inclusion and utilizes a
non-traditional casting policy. Non-traditional casting is a method
designed to increase artistic options by expanding casting opportunities
for women, actors of color, seniors, and actors with disabilities in roles
where race, gender, age, or the presence or absence of a disability are not
germane. To that end, we encourage all actors to audition, regardless of
race, ethnicity, gender identity, or physical ability. Please note that
this play contains moments of intimacy.
