this very approximate range… casting will depend upon combinations of
actors/actresses)

Myrtle Mae
Young Female (late teens - 28) frustrated with uncle, wants to break into
society

Veta Louise
Female (45-55 years), widower, sister of Elwood, very anxious for Myrtle
and worried about brother’s sanity.

Elwood P. Dowd
Male (40 - 50 years), amiable eccentric, a dreamer who lives in the moment,
and has an invisible 6’ rabbit as a friend, much to his sister’s alarm.

Miss Johnson
Female maid, any age

Mrs. Ethel Chauvenet
Female (65 years), wealthy society dame, friends of the Dowds for years

Ruth Kelly, R. N.
Female (24 - 30 years), young female nurse at the Sanitarium, has a crush
on the new young doctor

Duane Wilson
Male (30-40 years) - Tough orderly at the Sanitarium, works much like a
bouncer

Lyman Sanderson, MD
Male (28 - 30 years), good looking, very new psychiatrist at the Sanitarium

William Chumley, MD
Male (40-60 years), dignified, very confident, no-nonsense director of the
sanitarium.

Betty Chumley
Female (40-60 years), wife of the director, good natured, loves to socialize

Judge Omar Gaffney
Male (50 - 70 years), very stern and conservative, family lawyer for years

E. J. Lofgren
Male cab driver, any age
