The show follows the final class of New York City's celebrated High School for the Performing Arts from their admission in 1980 to their graduation in 1984. All of the struggles, fears and triumphs – from prejudice to substance abuse – are depicted with razor-sharp focus as the young artists navigate the worlds of music, drama and dance.

Production Dates – June 5 - 20, 2026
Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 pm

Rehearsals begin – Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 1:00 pm
Rehearsals will GENERALLY be Mondays thru Thursdays 6:00-9:30 p.m. & Sundays 1:00-5:00 pm

Casting Information: 
- Needed: Cast of approximately 25+
- All roles are available, 6W & 6M principals plus ensemble
- All roles are open to the RIGHT person, regardless of age, gender, race, etc.
- Auditions are open to age 15 years and up
- No AEA contracts available for this production.
- Actors appearing in The Fine Arts Association productions do so as volunteers.

Audition Requirements: 
- Come prepared with a 16 – 32 bar cut of a musical theater song in the style of the show.
- Bring sheet music in the proper key.
- An accompanist will play for all auditioners.
- Bring a detailed list of your conflicts beginning April 12, 2026. This includes any school or work activities/events, sports activities/events and classes that would cause a missed scheduled rehearsal. All cast members must be available for tech week (May 31-June 4) and ALL performances.
- Résumés will be accepted (not required).  

ROLES AVAILABLE:
Serena Katz - A shy and timid, yet keen and enthusiastic actress. She is attracted to Nick.
Gender: female - Age: 15 to 20 - Vocal range top: Eb5 & bottom: G#3

Nick Piazza - Ambitious, enthusiastic, classical actor who is very serious about his craft. He holds a hidden romantic interest for Serena.
Gender: male - Age: 15 to 20 - Vocal range top: G4 & bottom: A2

Joe Vegas - An acting student. Loud, funny, and comical. He develops a crush on Carmen.
Gender: male - Age: 15 to 20 - Vocal range top: C5 & bottom: C3

Carmen Diaz - A sexy and confident, but cocky, dancer with a big ego. Carmen is determined to make it big and is obsessed with the idea of fame, nearly to a fault.
Gender: female - Age: 15 to 20- Vocal range top: F5& bottom: A3

Tyrone Jackson - A talented but dyslexic hip hop dancer who comes from a poor background. Shares a difficult relationship with Iris. *Alternate casting: JACK ZAKOWSKI - Headstrong, able, dancer. A functional illiterate from a poor background and Russian immigrant student from Brighton Beach in Brooklyn.
Male, 15-20 yrs old - Gender: male - Age: 15 to 20 - Vocal range top: Bb4 & bottom: D3

Iris Kelly - A very talented, graceful ballet dancer who often comes across as snobbish and mean because of her insecurities with herself. She shares a difficult relationship with Tyrone.
Gender: female - Age: 15 to 20 - Vocal range top: F5 & bottom: D4

Schlomo Metzenbaum - A classical violinist who starts a rock band. He is fed up with the strain of his famous violinist father's expectations. He is very wise and academically clever.
Gender: male - Age: 15 to 20 - Vocal range top: F4 & bottom: C3

Grace Lamb (lambchops) - A loud, confrontational rock chick and tomboy who plays the drums for Schlomo's band. She often loses her temper, and it is implied that she does not take school seriously.
Gender: female - Age: 15 to 20 - Vocal range top: B4 & bottom: A3

Goodman King - A musician who is in Schlomo's band. He is believed to be Schlomo's best friend.
Gender: male - Age: 15 to 20 - Vocal range top: G#4 - bottom: F3

Mabel Washington - A loud and overweight dancer and singer who is desperate to shed the pounds but can't resist food. Often speaks her mind and gives out advice to others in their times of trouble.
Gender: female - Age: 15 to 20 - Vocal range top: E5 & bottom: D4

Miss Esther Sherman - A strict, old-fashioned English teacher who loves her students despite the fact that she comes down hard on them.
Gender: female - Age: 30 to 50- Vocal range top: E5 & bottom: F3

Miss Greta Bell - A dance teacher with a passion for different styles of dance. Believes that dance is a way of life and is very protective of her students.
Gender: female - Age: 35 to 50 - Vocal range top: E5 & bottom: A3

Mr. Sheinkopf - European Music tutor with a love for classical music and dislike for all things rock and roll.
Gender: male - Age: 35 to 50

Mr. Myers - A laid-back drama teacher with an obsession for human psychology.
Gender: male - Age: 35 to 50
