MTC To Present The Ohio Premiere of Mean Girls the Musical at The
Youngstown Playhouse!

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Millennial Theatre Company (MTC) will present the Ohio
premiere of the hit Broadway musical, Mean Girls the Musical at the
Youngstown Playhouse (600 Playhouse Lane Youngstown, OH 44511) for a 2
weekend run, with performances running April 17-19, 24-26.

Mean Girls is a musical based on the 2004 cult-hit movie of the same name
by Tina Fey. The story follows homeschooled student Cady Heron. Cady may
have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild
and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this
naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on
The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless
Regina George. But when Cady and her friends devise a "Revenge Party" to
end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a queen
bee without getting stung.

Director Joe Asente said he is excited that MTC was able to bring this
premiere production to the stage, “We have been waiting for the release of
this show for ages. Every generation has its quintessential high school
movie that explains what high school was like for that generation. Mean
Girls was the definitive high school movie of our generation. It was also a
movie that gained cult status due to its memorable quotes and one-liners.
There are even people who use quotes from the movie in their daily speech
who have no idea that their commonly-used phrase started right here in Mean
Girls! Despite its Millennial roots, the film has truly become a touchstone
of American culture, and we could not be more excited to be the first ones
to bring this story to life on stage in our area.”

Asente continued that Mean Girls the Musical truly has something for
everyone, “A lot of these shows that are set in high school have a tendency
to be kind of one dimensional and too cookiecutter. Mean Girls truly breaks
the mold in several ways. For example, it has some incredible music that is
very different from the pop-sound of many high school-based shows, and,
most importantly, it is one of the funniest musical comedies of the last
decade.”

The musical, written by Tina Fey and her husband Jeff Richmond, recently
enjoyed an extremely successful Broadway run and several national tours.
MTC is among the first community theatres in the nation to produce the
show. Asente said, “We are honored to be among the first in the nation to
bring this show to our stage, and we could not have assembled a better cast
for this production. Each and every one of them brings the high energy and
demanding vocal performances that this show requires. Be sure to come sit
with us; it will be so Fetch!”

The cast for the production includes Natalina Kazimir, Karina Moran,
Carolyn Colley, Tom Millsap-Kijauskas, Karlina Valley, Trudi Herrholtz, Sam
Early, Arcale Peace, Roz Blystone, Erik Anderson, Austin Barriger, Edward
Bazzell, Sage Mason, Emalee Chappa, Ashley Conway, Caroly Delliquadri,
Sammie Gurd, Danny Stephenson, Brendan Bishop, Paula Stephenson, Emma
James, Kieran Sears, Michelle Jalbert, Steve Millsap-Kijauskas, Landon Eli,
and Andrew Baumeier.. The production is directed by Asente with music
directed by Cari Auth and choreography by Colleen Chance.

Performances for Mean Girls the Musical run April 17-19 and 24-26  at The
Youngstown Playhouse. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30pm and
Sunday performances are at 2:30pm. Tickets are $27 and are available online
