Good Afternoon,


We at Workshop Players Theater in Amherst, OH are happy to invite you to
apply to direct during our 2027-2028 season.  It may seem early, but our
process takes some time.


Last November, we chose our season for 2026-2027, blurbs and logos have
been created, and licenses applied for and granted.  We are currently
primed to print our brochure for next season ….  SO, it’s time to start
again.


It is our belief that directors need to have an investment in whatever is
chosen to produce.

Therefore, instead of choosing a season randomly and then searching for
directors, we like to do it the opposite way.  *We ask that you, as a
potential director, submit no fewer than 4 and no more than 5 shows that
you would like to direct.   Include a description of, each play (that could
be copied from the licensing site), why you believe those particular pieces
would be effective in our theater, and, if you have not directed with us
before, also include a theatrical resume. *


*The deadline to apply is JULY 31, 2026. *


The Board of Trustees may choose to interview some of the candidates. They
will select our five directors and after they are chosen, the play reading
committee will read the 25-30 submitted plays and work to establish a
balanced season, which will be approved by the Board in November.


*We are especially interested in CHRISTMAS PLAYS, and CHESTNUTS *(both *Arsenic
and Old Lace *and *Harvey *sold particularly well).  Our audiences like to
be entertained, and that is our focus.  Please do not submit absurdist or
highly controversial pieces.


Workshop Players Theater is proud to be the longest-running
theater-in-the-round in the state of Ohio.  Housed in a former one-room
schoolhouse, the magic of theater is inches away from our audience
members.  Naturally, that means we do have some limitations to be kept in
mind when applying.  We have very limited backstage space, so we cannot
store a lot of scenery.  Having very large casts with 20+ cast members
would be difficult to accommodate.


We also do no more than one musical a year, and some seasons do not include
a musical at all.  If you are interested in submitting a musical, please
also suggest straight plays to enhance your chances of being selected.


*Everyone at Workshop Players is a volunteer. * We do it for the love of
theatre, and each year we have been delighted to receive more applications
from potential directors than we have slots— reaffirming to us that the
love of theatre is alive and well!  Thank you for being among that number.
