Today’s artists and writers continue to push publishing in new directions while challenging the perceptions of high and low art, often with irreverence and razor sharp commentary. </FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in; LINE-HEIGHT: 200%; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><FONT size=3><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial">This dialogue will feature author, <B>Dave Eggers</B> and <B>Michael Kimmelman</B>, Chief Art Critic for <I>The</I> <I>New York Times</I> and a frequent contributor to <I>The New York Review of Books</I>. </SPAN><B><SPAN style="LINE-HEIGHT: 200%; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Dave Eggers</SPAN></B><SPAN style="LINE-HEIGHT: 200%; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"> is the author of the memoir <I>A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius</I> (2000), the novel <I>You Shall Know Our Velocity</I> (2002), the story collection <I>How We Are Hungry</I> (2004), and the novel <I>What is the What</I> (2006). In 1998, he founded <I>McSweeney's</I>, an independent book publishing house in San Francisco. <I>McSweeney's</I> produces the eponymous quarterly journal, a monthly magazine called <I>The Believer</I>, a daily humor website at <A title=http://www.mcsweeneys.net/ href="http://www.mcsweeneys.net/" target=_blank><SPAN title=http://www.mcsweeneys.net/ style="FONT-FAMILY: Times">www.mcsweeneys.net</SPAN></A>, and <I>Wholphin</I>, a quarterly DVD of short films. Eggers' book and magazine design work has been featured in many periodicals and both the National Design Triennial at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and the California Design Biennial. In 2002, Eggers opened 826 Valencia, a writing lab for youth in San Francisco, now with branches in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Michigan and Boston. He is editor of <I>The Best American Non-Required Reading</I> series, and co-founder of the <I>Voice of Witness</I> series of human rights oral histories</SPAN></FONT><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 9.5pt; LINE-HEIGHT: 200%; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">.</SPAN><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial"></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in; LINE-HEIGHT: 200%; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><FONT size=3><B><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Moderator Michael Kimmelman</SPAN></B><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial">, educated at Yale and Harvard, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and is the author </SPAN><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial">several acclaimed books, most recently <I>The Accidental Masterpiece: On the Art of Life and Vice-Versa</I>, published in August 2006. He also wrote</SPAN><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial"> <I>Portraits: Talking with Artists at the Met, the Modern, the Louvre and Elsewhere</I>, which was named as a notable book of the year by the <I>New York Times</I> and <I>The Washington Post</I>. He has written and hosted various television shows about the arts and is also a pianist. </SPAN></FONT></P>
