Concerts at the Crossroads, the performance series of Christ Episcopal

Church which presented all three Schubert cycles last spring, brings

solo vocal music back to the sanctuary with a Vaughan Williams Festival

on <b>Saturday, January 26th at 3 pm.</b><br>

The festival concert features two of his great song cycles, Songs of

Travel for voice and piano (poems by Robert Louis Stevenson) and the

Five Mystical Songs for voice, choir, and organ (poems by George

Herbert).  Christopher Grundy, baritone, will sing both cycles,

accompanied by Nathan Carterette, pianist/choral conductor, the

combined choirs of Christ Episcopal, Trinity Cathedral, and Church of

the Covenant, and organist Daniel Hathaway, Canon for Music at Trinity

Cathedral.<br>

Also on the program are works of Vaughan William's contemporary and

mentor Maurice Ravel, including the Five Popular Greek Songs, and his

successor Benjamin Britten, with a selection of his famous folk song

arrangements.<br>

Admission is free with a $10 suggested donation, and a reception will follow the performance.<br>

<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Christopher Grundy,

baritone, is an active recitalist who has performed throughout the

United States and Europe. He has a broad concert and operatic

repertoire ranging from the Renaissance through the 21<sup>st</sup>

Century. He works as a soloist with many choral ensembles, including

the Choir of the St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York, and the Amor

Artis Chorale under Johannes Somary. Mr. Grundy began his vocal

studies with John Mack Ousley, and his piano studies with John

Contiguglia. He completed his B.A. at Yale University, where he was

awarded the Ben Cutler Vocal Scholarship. During this time he

conducted the Yale Russian Chorus, served as the Assistant Conductor

of the Yale Glee Club, and appeared in leading roles with the Yale

College Opera Company. For two summers he performed at the AIMS

festival in Graz, Austria, where he studied with Harold Heiberg. He

enjoys bringing lesser-known composers (new and old) to the concert

stage, and is currently preparing two new programs, one featuring the

Lieder of Ferruccio Busoni and Wilhelm Stenhammar, the other the

<i>Silent Songs</i> of Valentin Silvestrov. Mr. Grundy teaches

singing privately at his home in New Haven, Connecticut.

He has collaborated

with Nathan Carterette in concert since 1999, and is pleased to

return to Christ Episcopal Church, where he last performed Schubert's <i>Schwanengesang </i>in spring 2007.<br>
