White and Special Collections Department</b> on travelers, travel, exploration, and adventure which include items on gypsies or Romani, referred to as "travelers" in some cultures. These nomadic wanderers often led a life unfettered to one location as they carried their history and culture in carriage and caravan.<font style=""> </font>Featured are various images and narratives by men and women who followed a mission and set out to see new sights and experience cultures previously unknown to the West as well as a collection of souvenir booklets from various locations in the United States and abroad.<font style=""> </font>During the nineteenth century, innovations in transportation, development of roads and railroads, and the invention of photography brought views of exotic lands into parlors and tea rooms on the Continent, in England, and in America. This created a new interest in travel, exploration, and adventure to previously unknown regions of the world.
