New Yorkers who fall in and out of love over the course of five years</span>.<span style=""> </span><span style="font-size: 16pt;">The Last Five Years explores a relationship
between Jamie, a rising novelist, and Cathy, a struggling actress. The show
uses a novel form of storytelling in which Cathy travels backwards in time…beginning
the show at the end of their marriage…and Jamie travels forwards…starting the
show with the couple's first date.<span style=""> </span>The
songs are presented as soliloquies, except for a wedding song in the middle,
where the two characters share a duet and interact for the first and only time
throughout the entire one act musical.<span style=""> </span>The
music soars effortlessly from one song to the next stirring the vast corners of
the soul and garnered the 2002 Drama Desk Award for outstanding music and
