<p class=MsoNormal style='text-indent:.5in;line-height:200%'><b>Lakewood, OH
– </b>Beck Center for the Arts presents <i>Talking Heads 2,</i> the
second in a series of dramatic monologues written by acclaimed British
playwright, Alan Bennett (<i>The History Boys</i>), in the Studio Theater,
November 7 through December 7, 2008. Show times are 8:00 p.m. Fridays and
Saturdays and 3:00 p.m. Sundays. To reserve tickets, call the Beck Center
box office at 216-521-2540 ext. 10 or request seats online at www.
beckcenter.org. The Beck Center is located at 17801 Detroit Avenue
in Lakewood, just ten minutes west of downtown Cleveland. Convenient,
free on-site parking is available. <i><o:p></o:p></i></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='text-indent:.5in;line-height:200%'>Originally written
for BBC television and broadcast in 1998, <i>Talking Heads 2</i> has since been
performed in live theater and televised on PBS’ Masterpiece
Theater. Bennett’s “talking heads” are anything but
boring or monotonous. The characters he portrays in this series of
thought- provoking monologues represent a menagerie of repressed souls.
Although the subjects of these monologues are very different, the underlying
feelings of loneliness, sadness and regret are very much the same for the
characters that Bennett portrays so candidly, yet humorously. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='text-indent:.5in;line-height:200%'>For this
production, the Beck Center welcomes back the first couple of Cleveland
theater, Dorothy and Dr. Reuben Silver, who bring their talents to the Beck
stage once again as they present new pieces from Bennett’s repertoire in
this compelling night of theater. The Silvers performed in Beck’s
2003 production of the original <i>Talking Heads</i>. This production,
co-directed by Dr. Reuben Silver and Curt Arnold, focuses on two very different
monologues from the series – <i>Playing Sandwiches</i>, featuring Robert
Hawkes as Wilfred, a middle-aged parks maintenance worker with a secret past
and <i>Waiting for the Telegram</i>, featuring Dorothy Silver as Violet, an
aged rest home resident who has recently suffered a stroke.
“Bennett’s closely observed slices of life give pleasure both for
their acuity and for the little human victories they contain.” commented
Dr. Silver. “They are at once highly imaginative yet immediately
accessible to audiences.” Co-director Arnold further remarked
“Through these monologues, Bennett paints extraordinary views of quite
ordinary people by revealing their humor, their foibles and, ultimately, their
humanity.” <b><o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='text-indent:.5in;line-height:200%'>Beck
Center’s production of <i>Talking Heads 2 </i>is produced through special
arrangement with Samuel French Inc. and is sponsored by Cox Communications,
Cleveland Scene, WCPN 90.3 ideastream, LakewoodBuzz.com, and the Ohio Arts
Council. <span style='color:black'>Beck Center gratefully acknowledges the
citizens of Cuyahoga County for their support through Cuyahoga Arts and
