<p class="MsoNormal">Peter Yarrow, of the legendary folk music trio Peter, Paul
& Mary, comes to the Beachland Ballroom (15711 Waterloo, Cleveland;
216-383-1124), Sunday, October 26, at 7:00 p.m., to perform in a free concert.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The concert, called “The Audacity of Votes: A Concert for
Change” is a get-out-the-vote event that also features popular local artists
Carlos Jones (reggae), Kristine Jackson (blues), the Prayer Warriors (gospel), and
Noah Budin (original folk-pop).</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The concert is free, with an optional suggested $5 donation
to help cover costs.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="" lang="EN">Peter Yarrow is a member of the Peter, Paul & Mary,</span><span style="" lang="EN"> the most successful folk music group in
history.<span style=""> </span>At 70, Yarrow is not only one
of the best-known proponents of the late-1950s/early ‘60s American folk music
revival movement, but he is still extremely active, as a performer and social
activist.<span style=""> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="" lang="EN"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;"><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">Peter,
Paul and Mary sang at the March on <st1:state w:st="on">Washington</st1:state>
in 1963 and marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the historic <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Selma-to-Montgomery</st1:city></st1:place> march
in 1965. <span style=""> </span></span><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";" lang="EN">Yarrow helped
organize and run the early Newport Folk Festivals, which launched the careers
of many young folk singers, such as Bob Dylan and Joan Baez.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="" lang="EN"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="" lang="EN">Yarrow has
written several well-known songs, including “Puff, the Magic Dragon,” a
children’s song recorded by Peter, Paul & Mary, and "Torn Between Two
Lovers," a number-1hit for Mary McGregor.<span style="">
</span>This past spring, "Peter, Bethany & Rufus: Spirit of
Woodstock" appeared on national public television. It featured 17 songs,
performed in concert with his daughter, Bethany.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="" lang="EN"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="" lang="EN">Yarrow started
Operation Respect, a non-profit organization, founded in 2000, that offers
children a curriculum of tolerance and respect for each other's differences in
schools and camps around the country. <span style=""> </span></span>He
also founded the “Save One Child” Fund at <st1:placename w:st="on">Beth</st1:placename>
<st1:placename w:st="on">Israel</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Hospital</st1:placetype>’s
<st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">Institute</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Neurology</st1:placename></st1:place> and Neurosurgery (INN) in 1996
to provide free medical care for children from all over the world, whose
families could not afford their critically needed neurosurgery. <span style=""> </span><span style="" lang="EN">In
2003, a Congressional resolution recognized Yarrow's achievements and those of
Operation Respect.<span style=""> </span>Still as active as
ever, Yarrow continues to tour and record. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
