size=3>Fiddler on the Roof is the touching tale of Tevye, a poor milkman
struggling with his family in czarist Russia at the dawn of the 20th
century. The villagers of Anatevka are faced with escalating Anti-Semitism
and spreading news of the pogroms of czar Nicholas II. Russian soldiers
occupy their small, Jewish settlement and interrupt the village's peaceful way
of life. In addition, Tevye is faced with the tough choice between the
happiness of his daughters and the traditional practices of his faith when his
three eldest daughters ask to be married without the use of a matchmaker.
With such classic songs as "Tradition", "Matchmaker", "If I Were a Rich Man",
and "Sunrise, Sunset" this production juxtaposes the uplifting spirit of the
people of Anatevka with the mounting tension of the injustices that are to
come. Above all, the audience is invited to spend a few hours inside
the living, breathing village of Anatevka with Tevye,
