process. The crime is investigated by John Archer, a pedantic doctor, and
Perry Dart, the first black detective in <st1:place w:st="on">Harlem</st1:place>,
with help from Jinx Jenkins and Bubber Brown, two ex-sanitation workers turned
"private eyes." <i><span style='font-style:italic'>The Conjure-Man
Dies</span></i> is an adaptation of the first African American Detective novel
