Sunday, December 7, outdoor skating returns to University Circle. The Rink at Wade
Oval will open to the public at 1pm as part of University Circle Inc’s (UCI)
Holiday CircleFest celebration, and will remain open through Monday, February
16.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"TradeGothic LT"'>Sponsored by
Target, The Rink at Wade Oval is the only outdoor rink in the city of Cleveland
this winter. With free admission, $3 skate rentals, and a concession stand, it
will also provide families with an affordable way to have fun. Wade Oval is
located at East Boulevard and Wade Oval Drive, just behind The Cleveland Museum
of Art, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and Cleveland Botanical Garden.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"TradeGothic LT"'>The notion of ice
skating amid University Circle’s wintry landscape began in the early 20<sup>th</sup>
century, as Clevelanders were known for lacing up their skates for winter fun
on frozen Wade Lagoon, the body of water that still stands, but no longer fully
freezes, in front of The Cleveland Museum of Art. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"TradeGothic LT"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"TradeGothic LT"'>UCI began looking
into the possibility of building an outdoor skating rink in late 2007. “We had
some amazing historic photos of people skating on Wade Lagoon that really
inspired us,” said <b>Chris Ronayne, president of UCI.</b> “We want people to
be able to come to University Circle and enjoy it year-round. I can’t think of
a better way to make these long Cleveland winters fun than with a skating rink
on Wade Oval.”<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"TradeGothic LT"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"TradeGothic LT"'>The rink itself
is made out of an environmentally-friendly polymer, and will be maintained
without using water or electricity. “We’re matching nostalgia with innovation
by reintroducing skating to University Circle with a polymer-based rink system,”
said Ronayne. “An addition to UCI’s three signature events (Parade the Circle,
WOW! Wade Oval Wednesdays, and Holiday CircleFest), The Rink at Wade Oval is a
major component of our destination marketing campaign to expand on the assets
of this truly unique neighborhood. It’s an opportunity to introduce visitors to
the Circle and have fun in the community.”<o:p></o:p></span></p>

its 15<sup>th</sup> year, Holiday CircleFest is University Circle’s annual open
house of lights, music, shopping, and family-friendly activities. More than 20

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 19 and President’s Day, February 16, noon
