videographer. Although JOEY explains that this way they can be together without
people thinking they are “together,” Rick sees it as a cowardly
move. As the evening wears on, he begins to see JOEY in a new light. JOEY
cracks snide remarks about people and makes faces behind his mom’s back.
He gets over-serious when one of his “works” is going to be danced
by Tina and her bridesmaids. He even becomes embroiled in the ancient feud
between the families he’s supposed to be “better” than.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<h1 style='text-align:justify'><span style='font-size:13.0pt'> </span><b>Alone
in his bedroom, Joey wasn’t listening to heavy metal bands, overheating
with visions of pre-teen girls grabbing for his clothes. Nor was he
reading Tom Swift or the Hardy Boys dreaming of inventions and sleuthing.
No, Joey’s room rocked with the sounds of “The Music Man,”
and when he danced before the mirror it was to a Broadway crowd. And when
it came to reading, for Joey it was Dumbo—the story of the elephant who
cried because his big ears made him the laughing stock of the whole
circus. But Dumbo became a sensation when those silly ears made him able
to fly. And whenever Joey felt blue because he couldn’t live up to
his father’s expectations, or hurt as his mom tried to cut him from her
apron strings, Joey would remember Dumbo and vow someday that he too would
fly. He kept his vow. As soon as he entered high school, his ears
started flapping. He discovered that he could sing and dance like nobody
else, making him a celebrity on campus. He also discovered that he was
gay, leading him to a secret life of weekend trips to the nearest town with a
gay population. His reputation as an enigmatic artist grew and soon he
even began to perform at community theatres—a feat unheard of for a
student at Christ the King High. For those precious gold days, Christ the
King High was Joey the King High—and it seemed it would never end.</b><o:p></o:p></h1>
