<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" ><tr><td valign="top" style="font: inherit;">The governments funding of the art is CRUCIAL to its survival, on so many levels and for so many reasons. Arts education should be included in this mix as well. Arts education helps children develop an appreciation for the arts and builds the foundation for a life of arts support. But that's a whole topic unto itself.<br><br>I just did a little preliminary research on line to grab some stats. One can spend a lifetime researching and documenting this - and I think the data comes out pretty much the same - but here are some quick numbers:<br><br>This from a Canadian study in 2003 - 2004 and the figures are in Canadian dollars.<br>Per capita government arts spending:<br>England - $22.99<br>Scotland - $20.00<br>Austrailia - $6.19<br>Canada is pretty low at $4.15<br>But - and be proud, America! - here's the total govt. arts funding per capita for the U.S. -
