and how of assessing student achievement in music. Learn testing options and
work to develop your own exams, rubrics, and ratings -- the workshop will
focus on teacher-designed assessment of learning as a tool to improve
instruction, reflect on curriculum, and evaluate learners. Basic components of
measurement, such as mean, median, mode, and distribution, will be presented.
More time, however, will be spent on applying these concepts to
teacher-designed rubrics, rating scales, and tests for formative and summative
assessment. Please bring assessment examples you’d like to refine and samples

Orff Process, Instruments, Movement, and Recorder. We will explore Orff’s
elemental style of rhythm, melody and movement drawn from natural speech
rhythms, with emphasis on creativity and improvisation . We will learn
foundational repertoire focused on singing and pitched and unpitched
percussion. Movement strategies will nurture body awareness, coordination,
pulse, game songs, and folk dance. Participants will enhance recorder skills
and teaching techniques. This workshop will develop and reinforce musicianship,
active music-making skills, pedagogy, learning theory, repertoire, and
