A small town in New England in the 1930s. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

Karen Wright and Martha Dobie, two young women, have a private boarding school
for girls. One of the girls, a real brat, is caught in a lie and
punished. She runs away from the school and goes to her
grandmother. She tells her grandmother that Karen and Martha are lesbians
(not true) and the grandmother, without checking, believes her. She calls
the parents of the other girls, who take their children out of the
school. The truth does come out in the end, but the lives of the two
women have been ruined.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
