<DIV>I am one of those on neohiopal who occasionally submits an "Unsolicited review" of a local theater show I've seen and thoroughly enjoyed. I only do so when I am truly impressed with <STRONG><EM>every </EM></STRONG>aspect of the production, such as Beck's, <EM>Evil Dead The Musical,</EM> and Mercury Summer Stock's, C<EM>inderella,</EM> to name a few recent <EM><STRONG>outstanding</STRONG></EM> examples. When I am <STRONG><EM>not</EM></STRONG> majorly impressed with the overall production, or have criticism of a show, I do not submit any opinion. I guess it's the old belief "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." </DIV>

<DIV>Our local theaters have a hard enough time attracting decent sized audiences and staying afloat. I figure why should anyone be party to keeping people away, even if a production is less than perfect? Why write a review which focuses primarily on the negatives...knocking the casting, tearing down the not-so-perfect voice of the lead. Remember Gang...this ain't Broadway. Many of these productions are on limited budgets and use non-professional talent. The director and performers, choreographers, costume and set designers, lighting and sound crew, etc. put countless hours, energy and often their own money, into producing a show. What do the critics, who tear down or nit-pick their efforts, produce? What are they contributing to the world of theater? </DIV>

<DIV>My goal in submitting an "unsolicited review" is just this: To help promote any outstanding production which, in my humble opinion, is deserving of a SRO audience. It's that simple. Our theaters are having enough trouble filling seats. </DIV>

<DIV>I will also add for the record, that I am not "connected" to any theater, nor have I had a "loved one" in any cast. I simply attend as many shows as I can afford to support my fellow actors and this artistic community. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>A side note: I would see everything out there every weekend if ticket prices were lowered to accommodate us "starving artists." Personally, I'd rather sit in (or perform for) a packed house where tickets prices were an affordable $10-$12 each, than an auditorium of 300+ seats with only 50 people who were able/willing to pay $20 or more.</DIV>
