<div>The Youngstown Playhouse presents the classic and powerful drama, INHERIT THE WIND, weekends, March 12-14 and March 19-21. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2:30 p.m.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>INHERIT THE WIND is a fictionalized telling of the events involved in the infamous Scopes trial of 1926, which pitted the renowned defense attorney, Clarence Darrow and three time presidential candidate, William Jennings Bryant in a court battle about creationism versus evolution. A teacher, John Scopes is on trial for teaching Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution, contrary to the Tennessee state laws that prohibited it in schools. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>The play was written in 1955 by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee. In an interview in 1996, playwright Lawrence commented that INHERIT THE WIND was never meant to be regarded as just an historical account, but rather a metaphor for any kind of mind control. "It's not about science vs. religion," he insisted. "It's about the right to think!" When the production debuted, America was experiencing the very height of the "McCarthy witch hunts" with its anti-Communist fever sweeping across the country. The play enjoyed a successful Broadway revival in 2007, and its message remains as fresh today as it ever was.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The Playhouse production of INHERIT THE WIND is directed by Samuel Joseph Perry. James Lybarger is the Scenic Designer, assisted by John Pecano. Costumes are by Cherie Stebner, and Dorene White serves as stage manager. The large cast features Joseph Scarvell, Larry Latsko, Terry Shears, Denise Sculli, Kaitlin Driscoll and Matthew Di Battiste and Caitlin Driscoll.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Ticket prices are $15 for regular admission and $12 for seniors and students. For further information and reservations, call the box office at (330) 788-8739.<br>
