Friday May 7<sup>th</sup> at 7:30 pm in the Western Campus Theatre located at
11000 Pleasant Valley Rd. in Parma, Tri-C faculty members Sarah Carey and Megan
Pitcher will host the spring 2010 Dance Showing. Students from all dance classes
will be demonstrating class work and improvisational dance explorations while
faculty members discuss the skills and developments of their work.
Selected students will perform works-in-progress choreographed by faculty
members and students. We will discuss how these works were developed, and
describe the artistic intent behind each. Students from Dance IV will
perform "Again Today," choreographed by the students and directed by
Pitcher. This piece was selected for presentation in the upcoming 2010
Ohio Dance Festival in Oberlin.</span><span style='font-size:10.5pt;font-family:
Consolas'> </span><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Additionally,
audience members will be able to see a guest presentation created by Turkish
guest artist Sevi Bayraktar and MorrisonDance. This lecture / demonstration
dance concert is an excellent opportunity for Tri-C students and community
members to learn more about the dance program at the Western Campus and to
learn how they can be a part of this growing program. Tickets are $5 and Free
for Tri-C students with a valid student ID. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class=MsoPlainText style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Sarah Carey is a performer, teacher and
choreographer originally from Rochester, NY. She received her BFA in dance
from Belhaven University in Jackson, MS. While living in NYC, she trained and
performed as part of the Professional Studies Program at the Limón
Institute/Limón Dance Company. Performance credits include works by José
Limón, Doris Humphrey, Steven Wynne, Bill Wade (Inlet Dance Theater), Randall
Flinn, and Laura Morton. In Rochester, she worked with PUSH Physical Theatre
and served as the Dance Director of Community Arts Academy, an
after-school/summer program for urban youth. She co-founded and served as
artistic director of ExpressArte Dance Ensemble and has appeared with the
Broadway tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, MegLouise Dance
and with Geomantics Dance Theater. Sarah has taught, performed, directed and
presented choreography in NY, MS, OH and the UK. She is on the dance faculty
at Tri-C and has recently taught at the American College Dance Festival,
ArtsPrep, Cleveland Ballet Conservatory, Hathaway Brown School, and Beck Center
for the Arts. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Sarah Morrison (M.A.) is the founder/director
of MorrisonDance and is a 2009 recipient of the Ohio Arts Council Award for
Individual Excellence. She began her professional career as a teenager in
Atlanta. Morrison relocated to Cleveland upon receiving a scholarship for her
choreography to attend Case Western Reserve University. Over the past 15
years, Cleveland has become her home, and the home to MorrisonDance, a company
recognized for its unique exploration and presentation of dance.
Morrison’s choreography has been seen in Atlanta, Chicago, Italy and
Mexico, and has been presented at the Joyce SoHo and Joe’s Pub at Public
Theatre in New York City. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Megan Pitcher is a diversely talented artist
whose work spans from concert dance to musical theatre and from film to
installation art. She received her BFA from Ohio University and trained at
Movement Research, Dance New Amsterdam and Bates Dance Festival. Since 2002, the
major focus of her work has been with her company of collaborating artists,
MegLouise Dance. Her works have been presented by Cleveland Public Theatre,
Playhouse Square, Cincinnati Fringe Festival, DUMBO Dance Festival, Outlet
Dance Project, Columbus Movement Movement, Michigan Dance Project, Ohio Dance
and the Junction Arts Festival in Toronto. She has performed works by Gabriel
Masson, Tere O'Connor, Susan VanPelt Peltry, Lotta Londregen, Maree ReMalia and
Kalindi Stockton. Pitcher has presented workshops and residencies through
ACDFA, Ohio Dance, Hathaway Brown School, Shaker Heights Ensemble Program, Beck
Center for the Arts and Orange High School.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>About our Guest Artist:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Sevi Bayraktar is a professional dancer and
teacher in Gypsy dance, including Flamenco. She believes the creativity of
dance can be used to assist in effectively developing solutions for community
issues. She has worked with many international Gypsy dancers in Turkey and in
Spain. She is currently completing a Masters Degree in Sociology in Istanbul
and working with the youth and women in the marginalized neighborhoods of the
urban city. She incorporates her knowledge of dance and theater with arts-based
education methods focusing on at-risk youth. Sevi Bayraktar's appearance with
MorrisonDance in this showing is possible through her residency with Young
Audiences of Northeast Ohio funded through the Cleveland Foundation Creative
Fusion Project.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
