<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">I would like to invite you to take part in a special theatre community event on Saturday, October 9th. We are offering an hour long Costume Design and Technical Application workshop with the members of the Play House’s Costume Shop, pre-show talk and matinee performance of our hit season opener<I> The 39 Steps</I>. The price for the entire afternoon is just $25. </FONT></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><I><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">The 39 Steps</FONT></I><FONT FACE="Times New Roman"> </FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman">is one part Hitchcock masterpiece, one part juicy spy novel, a bit of Monty Python mixed together to create this season’s most intriguing, most thrilling, most riotous, and most unmissable comedy smash. This fast-paced tale of an ordinary man on an extraordinarily entertaining adventure features a quick-witted and acrobatic cast of four actors creating over 150 characters. As you can imagine, the play</FONT> <FONT FACE="Times New Roman">calls for a lot of costumes and a lot of quick changes. </FONT></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Mary Schilling Martin (Wig Master) Carolyn Dickey, (assistant costume shop manager), Clare Briggs (Head Draper) and Kirsten Roberts (Craftsperson) will give you a behind the scenes look at how the clothes were designed and built. You will get a glimpse of the backstage coordination required to pull off this dazzling feat. They will share insider’s tips gained over their combined 70 years in the business. You will have a chance to ask questions as well as speak to your colleagues from other theatres allowing us all a chance to connect, share advice and tell stories of costume triumphs and disasters.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">The workshop begins at 1:00pm, with discussion immediately following, and then</FONT><I> <FONT FACE="Times New Roman">The 39 Steps</FONT></I><FONT FACE="Times New Roman"> performance at 3:00pm. </P>
<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Clare Briggs</FONT></B><FONT FACE="Times New Roman"> has been the draper at CPH since 1988. She graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in theatre and communication and did graduate studies in costume design and technology at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She has worked at various regional theatres including the Asolo in Sarasota, Tennessee Rep at Nashville, and The Alley Theatre in Houston.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Carolyn Dickey</FONT></B><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">, assistant costume shop manager, began working at CPH 20 years ago after earning her BS in theatre: production and design from Texas Woman’s University. She also designs costumes for the Theatre for Youth series at CPH. She has designed costumes for productions at Dobama and Cleveland SignStage. She has worked at other theatres including Ohio Light Opera, Shakespeare & Co., Berkshire Theatre Festival, and Lyric Opera Cleveland.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Mary Schilling Martin</FONT></B><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">, the Wig Master for the Cleveland Play House has worked in professional theatre for 33 years, mostly wigs, occasionally stage and opera makeup and a few crazy special effects. She's designed and built wigs for over 40 theatre companies, working on over 320 productions. After she figured this out, she needed a break. <P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Kirsten Roberts</FONT></B><FONT FACE="Times New Roman"> is in her 14<SUP>th</SUP> year in entertainment with a solid background in stagecraft, special effects, wigs and make-up. Now in her 4<SUP>th</SUP> year at CPH, she is honored to be called “craftsperson” in the lovely costume shop. True Story. <P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman">Laura Kepley</FONT></B><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman"> recently joined The Cleveland Play House as Associate Artistic Director. Previously, she served as a Resident Director and Artistic Associate for four seasons at Trinity Repertory Company and Interim Head of the MFA Graduate Program in Directing at Brown University/Trinity Rep for one. While at Trinity, she directed</FONT><I> <FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman">The Clean House</FONT></I><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman">,</FONT><I> <FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman">The Syringa Tree</FONT></I><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman">, and</FONT><I> <FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman">Shapeshifter</FONT></I><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman"> and co-created and directed the world premiere docu-dramas</FONT><I> <FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman">Boots on the Ground</FONT></I><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman">, and</FONT><I> <FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman">Some Things are Private</FONT></I><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman">; both were co-created with and written by Deborah Salem Smith.
