States</SPAN><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; COLOR: #7f007f"> was on the verge of entering the first Persian-Gulf War, and the country was in a state of patriotic fervor. Audiences may not have been ready for the message Sondheim and Weidman were delivering.</SPAN><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; COLOR: black"> </SPAN></P>
