emerged from the downtown Manhattan scene of the 1980s, making multimedia
"song cycles" that mixed the minimalist styles of Philip Glass and
Steve Reich with music inspired by the pop and roots music that he heard on the
radio in his youth. His newest
exploration, </font><i><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Arial">Gravity Radio</font></i><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Arial">, tunes in
to the zeitgeist, mixing kaleidoscopic multichannel video with sounds from the
AP News Wire, a string quartet, short wave radio frequencies, and songs by
Rouse’s band to create an otherworldly environment. Describing the culture we live in, Rouse communicates its
complexity and, like the force of gravity that keeps us grounded, evokes its
intangible mystery. <br><br></font>
