Wolfgram Evans is a playwright, animation historian, and a two-time
winner of the Thurber Treat award. Though currently a native of
Columbus, Ohio, Evans grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and went to the
University of Akron. Noell has also recently published a book, Animators of Film and Television: Nineteen Artists, Writers, Producers, and Others. The
novel is part history, part biography, and part artistic commentary. It
explores animation in entertainment throughout history and its effect
on popular culture.

Historically, animation mostly appeared in shorts
between movies at theaters between showings, but with the innovations of
Walt Disney and other animators who experimented and made feature full
length movies, animation began to impact not only the entertainment
industry, but popular culture in general. Noell discovered this while he
started after college freelancing in the Akron area, writing history
pieces and learned more about people. Being a classic movie lover
himself, he found these animators interesting in the development of
modern film. Films like The General, North By Northwest, Fail Safe, Dog Day Afternoon, and Yankee Doodle Dandy, and The Front Page,
piqued his own interests to write better stories of those qualities,
founded on nuances and characters and to write plays and scenes of that
artistic quality. He also hopes that something he wrote will strike
people in that need-to-know mark and be a touchstone that people will
remember and still remember even after twenty years.

Within an emailed interview, we talked about people highlighted in his book. Here are highlights from that interview:

What have you discovered about these animators and how has it contributed to your appreciation of them?

What I discovered and what I hope people get a real feel
for is how the people in the book really affected popular culture and
in many cases the comedic landscape of today.
