The event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=NoParagraphStyle><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=NoParagraphStyle>Di Tsvey – The Greenman/Rushefsky Duo features the traditional pairing of the violin and tsimbl, the Jewish hammered dulcimer, as rendered by two of the world’s leading masters of secular Jewish music. The duo, Steven Greenman on violin and Pete Rushefsky on tsimbl, perform traditional music, as well as new compositions rooted in the klezmer tradition. The playful and delicate interaction of the instruments will mesmerize the audience, as they are transported to 19th and early 20th century Europe, enjoying virtuosic showpieces for the Jewish wedding table, lively dance music and soulful melodies. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=NoParagraphStyle><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=NoParagraphStyle>Greenman is recognized internationally as one of the finest practitioners, composers and teachers of traditional East European Jewish klezmer violin music. He produced his original Jewish and klezmer compositions for the CDs <i>Stempenyu’s Dream</i> and <i>Stempenyu’s Neshome </i>and co-produced <i>Khevrisa-European Klezmer Music</i>. He co-founded the Khevrisa Ensemble and performs internationally with numerous klezmer ensembles, in addition to teaching klezmer music at various festivals and master classes. Greenman is also an accomplished performer of Hungarian nota, Romanian lautari music and urban East European Gypsy music. He has been a guest soloist with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, the Canton Symphony and the Akron Symphony.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=NoParagraphStyle><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=NoParagraphStyle>Rushefsky is a leading revivalist of the tsimbl or traditional klezmer hammered dulcimer. The string instrument, which is played like a xylophone, uses more than 100 strings to create a mystical, harp-like sonority. Rushefsky performs with some of the finest practitioners of traditional klezmer music. His <o:p></o:p></p><p class=NoParagraphStyle>new release with singer/pianist Rebecca Kaplan is entitled <i>On the Paths: Yiddish Songs with Tsimbl</i>. Rushefsky won much critical acclaim for his CD with violinist Elie Rosenblatt, entitled <i>Tsimbl un Fidl: Klezmer Music for Hammered Dulcimer & Violin</i>, and he appears on Greenman’s CD, <i>Stempenyu’s Dream</i>. He has performed in numerous North American and European venues. A popular instructor of klezmer, he also authored a pioneering instructional book on adapting the American 5-string banjo for klezmer.
