<p>What are the perfect ingredients for hysterical, satirical success
on stage? </p><p>According to Stow Players, it would seem to be alcoholics, cheeseballs and the Amish, just to name a few.</p>
<p>Stow Players is kicking off its 2011-12 production season with the
comedy "The Book of Liz," Nov. 4 through 19 at The Heritage Barn. The play is
authored by Grammy-nominated humorist/author David Sedaris and his comedienne
sister Amy Sedaris. Award-winning director Pat Robertell-Hudson of Silver Lake
helms the show, with exceptional assistance from Stage Manager Kathrine Dannemiller of
Stow.</p>
<p>"The Book of Liz" tells the story of Sister Elizabeth Donderstock
(Brenda Redmond of Twinsburg), or Liz, for short. She is Squeamish (think
Amish). Liz makes wonderful traditional and smoky cheeseballs that she sells to
the outside world to sustain the entire Squeamish community of ClusterHaven.
However, the uptight Reverend Tollhouse (John D. Haller of Stow) and Sister
Constance Butterworth (Becky Campbell of Akron) are constantly giving her a hard
time for her "liberal" thinking. To make matters worse, the Reverend assigns
Brother Brightbee (Rob Core of Akron), a newcomer to the flock, to do all of the
cooking chores. Liz feels that she is about to be squeezed out of her life's
work, so she decides to hit the road and experience life in the outside world.
Her mid-life version of Rumspringa and her colony's attempts to cope with her
absence paint the backdrop for this wild comedy.</p>
<p>Along the way she meets a Cockney-speaking Ukrainian immigrant
couple (Tari Lyn Bergoine of Aurora and Mike Cranston of Wadsworth) who find her
a job waiting tables at Plymouth Crock, a family restaurant run almost entirely
by recovering alcoholics (Michael James of Wadsworth) and frequented by many
visitors (Dannemiller). Things go well for Liz until she is offered a
promotion.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, back at ClusterHaven, they just can't seem to duplicate
Liz's cheese ball recipe. They are panic-stricken and desperate.</p>
<p>"The Book of Liz" will be staged Nov. 4, 5, 11-13, and 18 and 19,
at The Heritage Barn at Silver Springs Park (back entrance). Curtain is at 8
p.m. for Friday and Saturday evening performances, and 2:30 p.m. for the Nov. 13
Sunday matinee.</p>
