I went to those auditions last week at the library and an african american girl went in to audition...so I am thinking maybe the night your granddaughter went, perhaps they already cast all non caucasian roles??

Bad form, indeed. Requirements or limitations of race, gender, age, etc., in a play should be made clear in an audition notice so that the air is clear before anybody even shows up.
