Be a part of the vocal craze that is sweeping the nation as Solon High School’s Music in Motion Presents ‘An Evening of Vocal Jazz’. <b><o:p></o:p></b></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Solon High School’s Show Choir, Music In Motion, is hosting a benefit concert featuring Afro Blue, Howard University’s premiere vocal jazz ensemble on Friday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium, 33600 Inwood Road. Afro Blue was featured during the 2011 season of NBC’s reality competition show “The Sing Off.” This brilliant group is an on-going vocal jazz ensemble at Howard University with continuing revolving personnel as students graduate and new students enter the program. They have been described as a “vocal big band” singing unique versions of music in styles similar to Lambert, Hendricks and Ross; Manhattan Transfer; The New York Voices and Take 6. This ensemble has received nine Down Beat Magazine Student Music Awards. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Sharing the stage with Afro Blue that night will be A Capella Groups from four area high schools: North Olmsted High School’s <i>Special Edition</i>, Medina High School’s <i>Churchills and Sirens</i>, Nordonia High School’s <i>Synergy</i>, Solon High School’s <i>Madrigals. </i>Solon High School’s Show Choir <i>Music in Motion</i> will also give a sneak preview of its 2013 competition show. <i> <o:p></o:p></i></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:10.0pt;line-height:115%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Music in Motion is under the direction of Gary Lewis. Mr. Lewis is the vocal director for Solon High School. Before teaching in Solon, Mr. Lewis sang professionally with Disney’s acclaimed vocal ensemble, The Voices of Liberty. Mr. Lewis stated, “Contemporary A Cappella has hit the main stream of popular culture. This award-winning ensemble has performed in festivals and competitions in Ohio, Illinois, Virginia and Florida, earning top honors in vocal performance, best instrumental combo, show design, outstanding soloists and best choreography.
