<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify">TrueNorth Cultural Arts, the
Lorain County Metro Parks, WOBL, and the Morning Journal present William
Gibson’s <i>The Miracle Worker</i> at
TrueNorth, January 18^th – February 3^rd. Come see the play
that the New York Post calls “interesting, absorbing, and moving.” Based on the
autobiography of Helen Keller titled <i>The
Story of My Life</i>, this play teaches us the importance of communication and
the triumph of the human spirit over adversity. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify">When an illness renders infant
Helen Keller blind, deaf, and dumb, she becomes pitied and spoiled by her
parents to the point that she becomes a wild, raging creature. Helen retreats
into a world of darkness and solitude to the point that she is treated almost
as sub-human by everyone, including her parents. Desperate and at their wit’s
end, the Keller family hires Anne Sullivan to serve as governess and teacher
for the young Helen. Only Anne can see the wind and spirit trapped inside
Helen, waiting to be rescued. She teaches Helen discipline and language through
the use of her fingers, a breakthrough that ultimately rescues Helen and her
parents from the bonds of Helen’s disabilities.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify">In addition to <i>The Miracle Worker</i> TrueNorth will offer
several other programs in conjunction with the show, including preshow talks
with the Cleveland Sight Center and TrueNorth at 6:30 pm each Friday, postshow
discussions with the cast and production team immediately after each Friday
performance,  and a number of
interactive exhibits and programs that explore the senses.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><i>The Miracle Worker</i> was the recipient of numerous Tony awards,
including the Tony Award for Best Play. <i>Time</i>
magazine has said that the play “<span style="background-color:white;background-repeat:initial initial">acquires stunning new reality and affectingness
on the stage,” and the New York Times calls it “profoundly moving.” The
TrueNorth production of <i>The Miracle
Worker</i> is directed by Fred Sternfeld and features AEA member Lara Knox as
Anne Sullivan and Robert Hawkes as Captain Arthur Keller. The show runs January
18^th-February 3^rd, with performances Fridays and
Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 3:00 pm. There are also special school
matinees available each of the Friday mornings at 9:30 am. Most of the related
exhibits are open from 10 am to 4:30 pm daily, and also during the evenings of
performances. </span></p>
