Year of the Snake) with an enjoyable and educational program for the whole family. Four members of the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Cleveland Chinese Music Ensemble</span> will perform festive Chinese melodies on an assortment of exotic traditional wind, string, and<span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1361936274_5">percussion instruments</span>, interspersed with stories about New Year traditions from China's rich and colorful history. As an added attraction, younger listeners will be invited to try out the ensemble's drums, gongs, and cymbals for a participatory finale.</font></div><div style="font-size: 16px;"><font size="2"><br></font></div><div style="font-size: 16px;"><font size="2">The ensemble's instruments will include <span style="font-style: italic;">dizi</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">xiao</span> (bamboo flutes), <span style="font-style: italic;">sheng</span> (mouth organ), <span
style="font-style: italic;">xun</span> (ocarina), <span style="font-style: italic;">gaohu</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">yehu</span> (fiddles), <span style="font-style: italic;">pipa</span> (pear-shaped lute), <span style="font-style: italic;">yueqin</span> (moon lute), <span style="font-style: italic;">guzheng</span> (zither), and percussion.</font></div><div style="font-size: 16px;"><font size="2"><br></font></div><div style="font-size: 16px;"><font size="2">This will be the first appearance in Geauga County for the Ensemble, which has presented nearly 100 programs of Chinese music throughout Ohio since its establishment in 2008.</font></div><div style="font-size: 16px;"><font size="2"><br></font></div><div style="font-size: 16px;"><font size="2">The event, which is sponsored by the Friends of the Library, is free and open to the public and takes place in the library's meeting room;
arrive early for the best seats.
