“More than the Funk of the City”</p><p style="font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:13px">Akron, Ohio--Who is a victim? This is the primary question explored in the play, <i>A Happening on Imperial</i>. This performance workshop is being produced by Ma’Sue Productions, University of Akron’s Truth Be Told and sponsored by <span style="font-family:Georgia,serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)">The Center for Applied Theatre and Active Culture (CATAC)</span>.<i> </i>The show was written by India Burton, Yulia Gray, and John Dayo-Aliya.</p>
<p style="font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:13px">The show takes an in-depth and at times raw survey of life in inner city East Cleveland specifically regarding the crimes of Anthony Sowell who has often been referred to in the media as “The Cleveland Strangler”. The Focus is not only on the crimes of Sowell but it also explores the impact his crimes had on the larger East Cleveland community.</p>
<p style="font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:13px">The play will be held at the Balch Street Theatre, 220 South Balch Street, Akron, Ohio 44302. Production dates are March 21<sup>st</sup> -23<sup>rd</sup> at 8 pm and a Saturday matinee at 2pm. Each performance will be followed with a talk back session with leaders from the community: Darrita Davis – President of Stop the Violence Movement (Akron), Dr. Amoaba Gooden- Chair of Kent State University Pan-African Studies, and Johnny C. Huff M.ED, Adult Educator of The Universal House of Consciousness.
