William Gillette (51) — Writer and star of
Sherlock Holmes. A handsome "superstar" and leading man of the
1920s. The image we have of Holmes IS William Gillette — tall,
thin, beak of a nose, piercing eyes, keen intelligence,
deerstalker cap, distinctive cloak etc.

Bobby Carlyle (early 30s) — Good-looking
actor in Gillette's acting company; a bit dim and casually
full of himself and impulsive; can be annoying or endearing.

May Dison (26) — A pretty, strong-minded
girl, the ingénue in Gillette's acting company.

Marion Barrett (about 45) — Gillette's
sister and an actress in the company; likeable and a bit
brassy.

Leo Barrett (about 50 or so) — Plays
Professor Moriarty in the company; Marion's husband and the
perfect match for her.

Lilly Warner (60s-70s) — Gillette's aunt;
speaks and moves with a grand air of a bygone era.

Louise Parradine (mid-to-late 30s) — Tall
and strikingly beautiful; a former actress in the company, now
a medium. Her manner is refined, slightly distant and
perfectly normal with an undertone of fragile nerves.
