OH - There are good parents and there are bad parents,
and then there are John and Helen Dingleberry. Too polite to peek to
see if their new baby is a boy or girl, they have no sense of
appropriate care for a child. Thank goodness for the help of Nanny, who
descends to offer guidance and salad Niçoise. Baby’s childhood is
fraught with kidnap attempts, boys with sticks, and encounters with
buses as neighbors and teachers debate about whether help is necessary.

Gilda Shedstecker Presents! Baby with the Bathwater by Christopher
Durang, a wacky comedy about surviving those parents who love very
badly. Ridiculously funny, the play is reminiscent of Saturday Night
Live in its prime, and satirizes parenting and society’s role in
acknowledging a child in need. Director Doug Tennant, who was a foster
parent for over 10 years, recognizes in the characters of John and Helen
those parents who fail to make positive choices to learn good skills,
and in the character of Nanny, both the good and bad aspects encountered
in the child welfare system. The message is biting, but side-splitting
as well! And the play is affirming: although it’s better to raise a
healthy child than to fix a broken adult, any baby can grow up to shed
his skirt and be happy, in spite of those who meant well.

Starring Jacki Dietz as Helen, Dan Fritz as John, and Tammy Zinkhon
Hyde as Nanny, the play features Lauren Syverson as Cynthia, with very
special appearances by Linda Alexander-Radak, Patrice Rittenhouse, Ellen
Fox, Bridget Bazzinotti, Robin Wilson and David Bowen. And Roman
Feemster as the Baby.
