Leningrad under Nazi Siege. A girl and two teenage boys huddle together in a

desolate apartment. 1946. Victory against the Nazis. The two men return from

the war, full of stories and promises. 1959. The Big Thaw and the dawn of a new

era. Reunited once more, the friends raise three wine-glasses in a toast:

“Let's not ever betray the winter of '42.” “Or ever come down to earth.” This

is <i>The Promise</i>, written by Aleksei

Arbuzov, a vibrant story of young love amidst the ever-changing landscape of

Soviet Russia. Arbuzov draws on the tradition of Russian Realism, finding </span><span style="line-height:112%;font-size:10pt">both</span><span style="line-height:112%"> </span><span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:112%">humor and humanity in tragedy. The play

follows Lika, an aspiring scientist, and the two friends hopelessly in love

with her—Marat, the would-be hero, and Leonidik, the eccentric writer—through

seventeen years of their lives. </span><span style="line-height:112%;font-size:10pt">But as th</span><span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:112%">e

war and the world change them, their childhood bond cannot stay the same.<br></span><span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:112%"><br><b>Ticketing Information:</b><br>General
