Tyrannical Nurse Ratched<strong> </strong>rules her psychiatric ward with an iron fist and a penchant for electro shock therapy. Into her ordered domain, enters the boisterous Randle P. McMurphy, intent on disruption and showing the other patients a good time. A titanic battle of wills emerges. One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest explores the boundaries between conformity and individuality, sanity and madness with a devastating effect.</span></div><h2><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;">Character Breakdown </span></h2><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;">** The age range for each character is flexible. </span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"> </span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><em><strong><u>THE PATIENTS</u></strong></em><br><strong>Chief Bromden:</strong> Large in stature, muscled, Native American male pretending to be deaf and dumb to mask overwhelming insecurities and regressive hallucinogenic images that plague him.</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Ruckley: </strong>Almost catatonic patient who has been lobotomized and is prone to verbal outbursts. Character spends much of the play “crucified” to the wall. </span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Dale Harding:</strong> 40’s. A gentle and effeminate man of incredible intelligence who has been emasculated by the women in his life. Works hard to keep his femininity in check.</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Billy Bibbit:</strong> 20-30 A young man who has a severe stutter and suicidal tendencies. He has been emotionally and possibly sexually abused by his mother. </span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Scanlon:</strong> 40’s – 50’s. A paranoid schizophrenic with some anger issues.</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Cheswick:</strong> 30+ – possibly bipolar. 40’s or 50’s. Alternately truculent and cringing.</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Martini:</strong> 30+ Possible schizophrenic. Sees and hears things that do not exist, but is not a threat.</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Randle P. McMuphy:</strong> 35+ Strong, good looking and masculine rogue – loud and lovable.</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><br></span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><u><em><strong>THE STAFF</strong></em> </u> <br><strong>Aide Warren: </strong>a large imposing orderly – mean spirited and prone to violence.</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Aide Williams:</strong> a more “wirey” version of Warren – also mean spirited and prone to violence</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Dr. Spivey:</strong> A mousey – well spoken but submissive Doctor.</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Nurse Ratched:</strong> An imposing woman in stature (well endowed) and personality. Strict disciplinarian with treme control issues. Sado-masochistic.</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Nurse Flinn:</strong> a “sweet catholic girl“ under the control of Nurse Ratched. Live in fear of the patients and her superiors.</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Aide Turkle:</strong> 50+ the night “guard” - an older alchoholic orderly.</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><br></span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><u><strong><em>OTHERS</em></strong> </u> <br><strong>Candy Starr:</strong> a fun loving prostitute that McMurphy sneaks on to the ward. Attractive, voluptuous, non judgemental and basically a happy person all around.</span></div><div><span mce_style="font-size: 150%;"><strong>Sandra:</strong> also a prostitute – more zoftig than Candy but similar in nature.
