Joe</div><div class="" style="text-align: center; ">Turner’s Come and Gone is set in the second decade of the 20th century and chronicles the</div><div class="" style="text-align: center; ">lives of a few freed former enslaved African Americans in the North. Th is secret that he refers</div><div class="" style="">to, the secret of life, symbolizes the meaning of all in existence and most importantly the knowledge</div><div class="" style="">of self.</div><div class="" style=""><br></div><div class="" style="">Herald Loomis -Aft er spending 7 years in a chain gang, Herald arrives at a Pittsburgh boarding</div><div class="" style="">house with his young daughter. He is in search of his wife who, while he was in the chain gang, left</div><div class="" style="">their daughter to her mother and disappeared.</div><div class="" style=""><br></div><div class="" style="">Zonia Loomis -Herald’s young daughter. She becomes Bertha’s helper at the house.</div><div class="" style="">Jeremy Furlow -A womanizing teenager.</div><div class="" style=""><br></div><div class="" style="">Rutherford Selig -Th e only white character in the
play. He used to fi nd runaway slaves; now he fi nds</div><div class="" style="">Negroes for Negroes. Herald hires him to fi nd Martha.</div><div class="" style=""><br></div><div class="" style="">Molly Cunningham -One of Seth’s tenants who desires nothing more than to be independent. Born of northern free parents, he is a skilled craft sman and owner</div><div class="" style="">of the boarding house. He has a stability that none of the other characters have.
