<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%">July 6, 2015—The Lakeland Civic
Orchestra, a full symphony orchestra housed at Lakeland Community College,
announces openings for new members of the orchestra for the 2015-2016 season.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%">Specific areas of need for the
coming season are all stringed instruments (violin, viola, cello, and bass),
horn, bassoon, trombone, and percussion.
Musicians who play other woodwind and brass instruments are encouraged
to audition, but may not be immediately offered a regular position.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%">Interested musicians will be
auditioned by appointment during the week of August 17-21, and should be
prepared to sight-read and play a prepared selection best demonstrating their
abilities. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%">The orchestra performs four
concerts annually, and rehearses Monday evenings on Lakeland’s Main Campus from
August through May. Concerts for
2015-2016 are scheduled for Sunday, November 8, Sunday, April 3, Sunday, May 1,
and Lakeland’s Commencement on Saturday, May 14. <a name="_GoBack"></a>Orchestra members come
from many different backgrounds, from passionate amateurs to professional
musicians seeking additional performance opportunities, and from ages 14 to
80. Lakeland students may earn one
college credit per semester for their participation.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:115%">Repertoire reflects the varied
interests of the musicians and community, and ranges from the traditional
orchestral repertoire to contemporary music and popular selections. All performances utilize a full orchestra of
strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion.
The concert on November 8 will include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5,
Copland’s Lincoln Portrait and Gould’s American Salute.</p>
