Water Street, Suite H</div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35626">Kent, Ohio</div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35627">$10 suggested donation (or pay what you can)</div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35628">preceded by 7:30 p.m. meet-and-greet featuring light food and drinks</div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35629"><br clear="none" id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35630"></div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35631">For the fifth concert of its inaugural season, the "Around the World" Music Series turns to the ancient sounds of the American continent, offering listeners a rare opportunity to hear the songs and stories of the Lakota (Sioux) Nation, which have echoed through the Great Plains since time immemorial.</div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35632"><br clear="none" id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35633"></div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35634">Born in the Moon of the Chokecherries Blackening (Canpasapa Wi in the Lakota language: the month of July) and raised in parts of rural Nebraska and on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, <b id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35635">Frank Running</b>, better known as <b id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35636">Little Elk</b>, has spent a lifetime learning and passing on the traditional arts, language, and spirituality of his Lakota heritage.</div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35637"><br clear="none" id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35638"></div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35639">A full-blooded, enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe (also known as the Sicangu Oyate or Upper Brulé Sioux Nation), he is a member of the Crow Dog clan that includes the lineage of Red Cloud on one side and Crazy Horse on the other. He has made Kent his home for more than a decade, returning home to South Dakota each year to see family and reconnect with his roots and culture.</div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35640"><br clear="none" id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35641"></div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35642">In this program, Little Elk will present five different drums: the powwow drum, the Sun Dance drum, the hand drum, the shield drum, and the water drum. He will sing selected traditional songs including inipi (sweat lodge), chanunpa (pipe), and Wiwanyang Wachipi (Sun Dance) songs, sharing stories behind the songs, and from his life's experience, along the way.</div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35643"><br clear="none" id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35644"></div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1465741874282_35645">The musical program will be preceded by a showing of the short documentary "Live and Remember: Wo Kiksuye" (dir. Henry Smith, 1987).
