The University of Akron Theatre will host open auditions for its fall production, “The America Play,” by <strong style="box-sizing: border-box;">Suzan-Lori Parks</strong> and directed by <strong style="box-sizing: border-box;">Jimmie Woody</strong>.</p>

Auditions, open to any UA student, faculty or staff member, and the public, are scheduled in Sandefur Theatre in Guzzetta Hall on Sept. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m., and Sept. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. Please have a monologue, poem, or song prepared.</p>

There are multiple roles available. Age range and ethnicity is flexible (no children). Poets, musicians and vocalists are also encouraged to audition.</p>

<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;">Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Suzan-Lori Parks’ play centers around an unnamed African-American grave digger, referred to as the “Foundling Father”, who gains a measure of fame due to his uncanny resemblance
to Abraham Lincoln. His fame comes from an attraction he runs that, for the cost of a penny, allows customers to take on the role of John Wilkes Booth and re-enact Lincoln’s assassination.</div>
