<p>Please join us Tuesday, April 25th at 7:00pm as Beck Center for the Arts music faculty member, Christine King presents a workshop for fiddlers of all abilities, focusing on a staple song of traditional American fiddling.

<span class="textexposedshow">Why is <i>Turkey in the Straw</i> one of the most requested songs in fiddling? Where did it come from and what makes it so popular? In this workshop, we look at the history of the song, and learn a core version that can be adapted
to suit even more intermediate to advanced fiddlers. </span><o:p></o:p></p>

<p>About Ms. King:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p><b>Christine King – Texas Style, Bluegrass, and Americana Fiddle</b><br>
A Colorado native, Ms. King started playing Suzuki Violin at a very young age, quickly falling in love with fiddle music and studying Texas Style Fiddling, and competing in contests all over the West. She has played in many acoustic bands all over the world
including The Railsplitters (progressive bluegrass), Coral Creek String Band (Americana) and Bonnis and the King (Americana). She specializes in teaching Texas Style and Bluegrass Fiddling, teaching techniques within the context of songs, instead of in isolated
exercises. Ms. King believes that Fiddle music is social by nature, and wants her students to have as many opportunities to play with other musicians as possible - building a tune repertoire while also working on fundamental skills. She accepts a variety of
students - from advanced players looking for something new, to beginners of all ages. Ms. King has herself studied with teachers such as Katie Glassman, Casey Driessen, Brittany Haas, Enion Pelta-Tiller, Bruce Molsky, Jason Carter, and Billy Contreras.<o:p></o:p></p>
