<p> Staged with utmost simplicity, using platforms and a few props,
the play probes into the delicate relationship of three singular
women: the grandmother, Dorothea, who has sought to assert her
independence through strong-willed eccentricity; her brilliant
daughter, Artie (Artemis), who has fled the stifling domination of
her mother; and Artie's daughter, Echo, a child of exceptional
intellect - and sensitivity - whom Artie has abandoned to an
upbringing by Dorothea. As the play begins, Dorothea has suffered
a stroke, and while Echo has reestablished contact with her
mother, it is only through extended telephone conversations,
during which real issues are skirted and their talk is mostly
about the precocious Echo's single-minded domination of a national
spelling contest. But, in the end, after Dorothea's death, both
Artie and Echo come to accept their mutual need and summon the
courage to try, at last, to build a life together - despite the
risks and terrors that this holds for both of them after so many
years of alienation. </p>
<h4>CHARACTER BREAKDOWN</h4>
<ul>
<li>Dorthea (F): Late 50s.</li>
<ul>
<li>Eccentricity solved so many problems. I could stay a wife
and a mother, and still converse with the souls of animals.
The eccentric matriarch of the family. Constantly fighting
against expectations.</li>
</ul>
<li>Artemis (F): 35-40</li>
<ul>
<li>I think a woman has a right to be irrational about her
children. A bruised pragmatic. She's been running away from
home for too long</li>
</ul>
<li>Echo (F): 16-18 </li>
<ul>
<li>Words are my collection. They're like jewels no one takes
out of the case. Precocious doesn't even begin to cover it…
Longs for a relationship with her mother. </li>
</ul>

<p><font size="-1">A madcap adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's
classic mystery, transforming "The Hound of the Baskervilles"
into an all-out comedic theatrical adventure. Full of humor,
horror, and plenty of stage magic, five actors play nearly 40
roles in this caper that is equal parts comedy and adventure.
Baskerville's fast-moving, pulse-pounding and murderously funny
ride plays out in grand scale, proving just how far from
elementary the truth can be. The world's favorite detective
returns in the most famous case of his career; the gloomy and
foreboding world of fog, quicksand, moors and monsters that
combine to create a dizzying web of clues. Sherlock Holmes and
his faithful companion Dr. Watson must unravel them quickly if
they hope to save the latest heir to the Baskerville fortune
from a centuries-old curse.</font></p>
