<h3 style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
color:#000; font-size:10pt;">Chagrin Valley Little
Theatre's production of 'Eleemosynary' spells conflict for
the Wesbrook family</h3>
<p style="font-size:10pt; font-weight:normal;font-family:
arial, sans-serif; color:#000000;">CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio -
Family dynamics and words play a major role in Chagrin
Valley Little Theatre's production of ELEEMOSYNARY, a
contemporary play by Pulitzer and Tony nominated
playwright Lee Blessing. The play focuses on three
generations of the Wesbrook family as they try to define
themselves as individuals and as part of a family unit.
The production opens 8 p.m. Friday, August 11 at CVLT's
River Street Playhouse, and plays 8 p.m. Fridays and
Saturdays through August 25 with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee
on August 20. </p>
<p style="font-size:10pt; font-weight:normal;font-family:
arial, sans-serif; color:#000000;"> ELEEMOSYNARY has a
cast of three extraordinary women: Margo Parker plays
matriarch Dorothea Wesbrook, who is recovering from a
stroke at age 75. Dorothea's brilliant middle-aged
daughter Artie is played by Kate Bernardo. Grace LeBay
plays Artie's precocious 15-year-old daughter Echo — a
National Spelling Bee champ, winning with the word
'eleemosynary' (relating to or dependent on charity), from
which the play gets its title.</p>
<p style="font-size:10pt; font-weight:normal;font-family:
arial, sans-serif; color:#000000;">These three women are
very articulate, but cannot seem to communicate with each
other. Dorothea is a self-appointed New Age eccentric. She
has complicated the lives of her daughter and
granddaughter by imposing her thwarted dreams on them.
Artie is alienated from both her mother and daughter.
Meanwhile, Echo believes herself to be the smartest person
in the world and strives to bring the family together
through her knowledge of words. </p>
<p style="font-size:10pt; font-weight:normal;font-family:
arial, sans-serif; color:#000000;">The play is a poignant
and mature study of family relationships, dysfunction,
connection, and ultimate forgiveness, according to the
play's director, Barbara L. Rhoades. "Blessing often
focuses on family dynamics in his plays," Rhoades said.
"Eleemosynary is one of his acclaimed works, having won
the prestigious Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award in
1997, and I am delighted to present it to our audience in
Chagrin Falls."</p>
<p style="font-size:10pt; font-weight:normal;font-family:
arial, sans-serif; color:#000000;">Tickets are $12 and may
be purchased in advance at the Box Office, 40 River St. in
Chagrin Falls, over the phone at 440-247-8955, or online
at CVLT.org. CVLT's River Street Playhouse, an intimate
62-seat "black box" theatre that offer the audience an
up-close seat to the drama unfolding onstage, is located
at 56 River Street, just west of the main CVLT building.
Advance purchase and arrival for parking are both highly
recommended, as this play's run is concurrent with the run
of the musical 'Avenue Q' on CVLT's Main Stage.<br>
