Please bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring a headshot and resume to auditions. Headshots and resumes are appreciated, but not required. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>Performance Dates:</strong> December 1st - 16th. Shows will be Thursday-Sunday. Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 8pm. Sunday performances will be at 7pm. <em>(Show will open on a Friday night and close on a Saturday night)</em></div><div><br></div><div><strong>Rehearsals:</strong> Begin October 30th. Rehearsals will be Sundays-Thursdays. Typically 7pm-10pm, though Sundays are usually 6pm-10pm. </div><div><br><strong>Pay: </strong>Blank Canvas Theatre dedicates 20% of the net profit to the cast of each show. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!</div><div></div><div>Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, <em>Urinetown</em> is an hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, <em>Urinetown</em> provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div><em><strong><br></strong></em></div><h2>Character Breakdown </h2><div><em>* The age range for each character is flexible and all ethnicities and body types will be considered.</em></div> <div><strong>Bobby Strong:</strong> <em>(Male 20-35, Tenor) </em>The dashing, rebellious everyman who works for Miss Pennywise at the poorest, filthiest town urinal. He becomes an unsuspecting protagonist and romantic hero when he starts a revolution and falls in love with Hope Cladwell.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Cladwell B. Cladwell:</strong> <em>(Male 45-65, Baritone) </em>The evil president and owner of the Urine Good Company. He is a miserly money-grubber who gleefully exploits the poor.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Hope Cladwell:</strong> <em>(Female 20-35, Soprano) </em>Cladwell's ravishingly beautiful daughter, torn between her father and her new love for Bobby. She begins as an innocent, naive angel but becomes vengeful and determined after being exposed to her father's evil.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Officer Lockstock:</strong><em> (Male 35-55, Baritone)</em> The tongue-in-cheek narrator of our story, he is a corrupt policeman who secretly kills off the guilty offenders. Bold, brash, and larger than life in many ways.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Little Sally:</strong> <em>(Female 18-40, Mezzo-Soprano) </em>A precocious and irreverent street urchin. She serves as a quasi-narrator who often questions Lockstock and the play's logic.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Penelope Pennywise:</strong><em> (Female 30-55, Mezzo-Soprano)</em> The tough, jaded warden of the poorest, filthiest town urinal. She is Cladwell's one-time lover and mother to Hope who eventually softens her temper.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Old Man Strong/Hot Blades Harry:</strong> <em>(Male 40-65, Baritone) </em>Bobby's rebellious father. His refusal to pay the fee sends him to Urinetown, ultimately launching the revolution. Hot Blades Harry is one of the Poor, he is a psychopathic and can become a violent loose cannon.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Old Woman/Josephine Strong:</strong> <em>(Female 40-65, Mezzo-Soprano)</em> Bobby's mother and Joseph's wife. A strong-willed woman with a bite, able to withstand the hard hand life has dealt her. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>Officer Barrel:</strong> <em>(Male 30-55, Baritone) </em>Lockstock's patrol partner. A thuggish and aggressive policeman.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Senator Fipp:</strong> <em>(Male 40-65, Tenor) </em>A greedy politician in Cladwell's pocket. A bumbling coward.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Mr. McQueen:<em> </em></strong><em>(Male 30-55, Baritone)</em> Cladwell's sycophantic lackey. A servile assistant.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Tiny Tom/Dr. Billeaux:</strong> <em>(Male 30-50, Tenor/Baritone) </em>One of the Poor, he is an idiotic man-child. Head of Research and Development at UGC.</div><div> </div><div><strong>Soupy Sue/Cladwell’s Secretary:</strong><em> (Female 18-60, Mezzo-Soprano) </em> One of the Poor, she is excitable and easily panicked. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>Little Becky Two Shoes/Mrs. Millennium:</strong> <em>(Female 18-45, Soprano) </em>One of the Poor.
