exposes audiences to “The Underpants,” a comedy adapted by
Steve Martin</h3>
<p style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size:10pt">
CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio – The River Street Playhouse at
Chagrin Valley Little Theatre reveals its funny side on
stage in THE UNDERPANTS, a wild satire, in which the upper
middle-class snobbery and conformity of the early 20th
century are turned upside down. Show times are 8 p.m.
Fridays and Saturdays April 27 through May 12, with a 2
p.m. matinee on Sunday May 6.</p>
<p style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size:10pt">The
play was adapted by the well-known stand-up comedian and
actor Steve Martin from a 1910 German farce by
expressionist playwright Carl Sternheim. It centers around
the household of Theo (Barry Moses) an uptight government
worker and his pretty, young wife Louise (Emmy Cohen).
When Louise accidentally exposes her underwear in public
while waving to the King (John Hickman), she attracts
hopeful suitors (Wes Roj, Christian Achker). Each is vying
for her attention and the spare room that Theo is renting
out to supplement his income. The production also includes
Lisa Freebairn as 'Gertrude,' the meddling upstairs
neighbor, and Russell Siegel as 'Klinglehoff,' another
prospective boarder.</p>
<p style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size:10pt">“Martin’s
witty dialogue and literary style updates the play, giving
us plenty of laugh-out-loud moments," says director Laurel
Bryant. "Martin even manages to use the 1900s scenario to
comment on modern gender politics and fame. It's a fun
evening out at the theater.” The show contains content not
suitable for young audiences.</p>
<p style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size:10pt">Tickets
are $12 general admission and may be reserved at CVLT.org,
by calling 440-247-9855 or at the Box Office, 40 River
Street in Chagrin Falls. Office hours are 1-6 p.m. Monday
through Saturday. The River Street Playhouse is located at
56 River St., west of the main CVLT building in Chagrin
Falls. CVLT is generously funded by Cuyahoga County
residents through Cuyahoga Arts and Culture and supported
by the Ohio Arts Council. CVLT is a proud member of the
American Association of Community Theatre. </p>
