Workshop </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"> </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">This workshop
will proceed with a step-by-step process for analyzing, interpreting, and
performing songs—in short, students will learn how to act songs or to fine tune
those in which you may already have. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"> </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">Students will
work on songs assigned by the teacher if needed, as well as songs they choose
themselves, with a goal of singing pieces from various time periods and genres
to show a variety of skill and understanding. 
The goal is to make the student extremely versatile and competent in all
arenas of musical theatre.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">Together the
teacher and students will assemble a repertoire of contrasting songs. We start
with a vocal warm up, followed by training in a process that leads to the
organic “living” of the songs. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"> </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">This process will
include audition etiquette, identifying given circumstances, i.e. who are you
singing to? Why are you singing? What do you want? Etc. We will be identifying
and solidifying a solid prebeat for each of your songs, the “moment before,”
what provides the transition from the student into the character? We will be
making character adjustments, both physical and psychological, when required,
employing the techniques of Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov, Kristen Linklater,
Meisner, Grotowski, to name a few.  The
goal will be to provide a way of working that is individual and specific to
each student.  In short, they will learn
a process that works for them, so that they may apply the process to future
roles and auditions by themselves. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">The workshop is
for actors, singers, and dancers, as it gives the participants a visceral
experience of the acting process, making clear what an actor needs as he/she/
they prepare a performance. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">These techniques
will enable the students to work as emotionally alive, theatrically inventive
performers. By the end of the workshop each student will have learned about the
relationship of acting to singing, and will have developed a reliable acting
technique applicable to both; will have added to their knowledge of musical
theatre history; will have experienced a collaborative working situation and a
sense of what their place may be in the professional world of musical theater,
and will have a solid understanding of the audition process.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">The workshop is
perfect for those wanting to fine tune their pre-screens and final auditions
for their college conservatory auditions, anyone wanting to sharpen their
skills in musical theatre, preparing one for an upcoming audition, or just for
fun! </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">The workshop
works as a group setting style workshop. 
All students will be watching and participating in learning specific
feedback after each performance.  The
goal being to learn from watching as well as doing.  Each student will be provided with a top-notch
accompanist/musical director, John Krol, as well as a highly qualified acting
instructor, Dan Hendrock.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">The workshop
takes place over two weeks at First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland, 3630
Fairmount Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44118. 
Each workshop will be two hours long from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.  The first class will be November 3rd and the
next week on November 10^th. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">The cost of the
workshop will be $100 for each student and only 8 students will be accepted. If
you can only make one of the days, it will only be $50 for that day. This
particular workshop will be reserved for those that are in high school and
above. The purpose of having such a small ensemble of students is so that each
participant will be provided with a solid amount of individualized attention

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt;font-size:12pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="background-image:initial;background-position:initial;background-size:initial;background-repeat:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial">Dan Hendrock is a professional actor, director and teaching
artist. He has been professionally directing and acting in Cleveland, NYC and
Chicago for the past fifteen years.  Dan got his MFA in Acting from the
Cleveland Play House/Case Western Reserve University graduate acting program
and is a proud member of AEA. He is currently the Director of Theatre at
Hathaway Brown School and works as the Head of Acting at Hathaway Brown Theatre
Institute.  Dan also holds his teaching
certificate in the Michael Chekhov Technique from the Great Lakes Michael Chekhov
Consortium. His performing credits include many television and commercial
appearances, regional theatres, national tours and Off-Broadway.  Dan has found his passion sharing his
expertise about the craft with the next generation of performers.   </span></p>

is a freelance music and theatre professional in the Cleveland area. He teaches
musical theatre classes at the Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood and the
Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute. He has been musical director for summer camps
at the Beck Center, Hathaway Brown, and Fairmount Performing Arts (FPAC), and
he serves as director, music director, and accompanist for many area school and
community theatres</span></p>
