Take Filght is a subversion of the
burgeoning comic book movie as it seeks to explore how super powered beings
handle real world crises. It tells the story of a high school student who grows
up in an abusive household who gradually discovers his own power.

David Gaddis is a Masters student at Ohio
University looking to produce Take Flight
as his Master’s Thesis film. His last film David Turner premiered at the Athens International Film festival as
well as other film festivals in the United States.
Audition Notes
The casting is directed toward African
Americans or biracial actors.
The director is has a realistic style and is
looking for a subtle performance that feels true to life.
Drake Carter, Male, 17
Drake is quiet but thoughtful. He’s an
average who could achieve more if he was happier at home. As a child when
Darren would get abusive towards him or his mother, Drake would climb under his
bed and start reading comics to himself out loud to drown out the sound and
pain. He would fantasize about being strong enough to take save his mother and
take them out of there. He dreams of
being a comic book artist and spends most of his free time creating and
designing characters. Drake is very fearful of his father but desperately wants
to get his mother out of the house.
Mara Carter, Female, 35
Mara had Drake when she was 19 years old and
as such put off her college aspirations to raise her family. She was
traumatized at age 7 when her father walked out on her and her mother, shoving
her into her mother’s arms and storming out the front door. Mara met Darren at
a bar where he prevented an aggressive fellow airman from getting too physical.
Mara got pregnant her first night with Darren and they were wed a year later.
Mara feels compelled to keep the family together and having the family fall
apart would be an unacceptable failure in her eyes.
Darren Carter, Male, 39
Darren is a military man raised by a military
man, and it’s his only way of life. He was a troublemaker as a kid, in and out
of trouble with the law and his father would beat him whenever he got caught
doing something he wasn’t supposed to do. His father drove him down to enlist
in the air force as soon as he turned 18.
Darren believes his violent commanding officer molded him into a real
man and sees that way of leadership as the only way to raise a family.
