Wake Up and Live’s Actors’ Studio (WUAL) is launching its “Healing Arts” project. We are inviting playwrights to submit one-act plays or scenes which can be performed in 30 minutes or less. These creative works should address mental health inspirational stories to be performed on Cleveland area stages and on “Wake Up and Live With the Arts” YouTube shows.
Selected plays or scenes will depict mental health challenges the character/s face, is overcoming, or has overcome, which allow him/her to now live an improved mental health life.
“Wake Up to Healing Arts” Submissions should:
Address the Concept: Using Performance and Media for Direction, Hope, Health, and Total Well-being.”
Plays, monologues or scenes may have no more than 3 characters.
Address Mental Health Issues.
What story is character telling?
. Describe some mental health CHALLENGES the character/s have overcome, and / or are currently experiencing.
. How the character keeps working on addressing the challenges to create transformational mental health changes.
. Why the character wants to make changes
. Examples of topics which reflect mental health issues
. The stigma of mental health issues
. Teens and young adults’ suicide
. Teen pregnancy
. Using drama, music and dance to help heal mental health issues
. Issues contributing to mental health challenges: Depression; Anxiety; Loss of income; Jobs; Family; Toxic Relationships;
Domestic abuse

IF Selected:
1. Plays and scenes will be performed on stage and on “Wake Up And Live With the Arts”
2. Stipend will be received from net proceeds of live performances.
