Chagrin Valley Little Theatre streams Arthur Miller's "The Price" May 7-9

Subhead: CVLT continues to entertain online with family drama recorded in 2014

CHAGRIN FALLS, OH - Throughout the pandemic, the 91-year-old Chagrin Valley Little Theatre has continued its mission by offering web streams of brand new and select archived productions while awaiting the safe re-opening of its doors at 40 River Street. On May 7, 8, and 9, the organization will present THE PRICE by Arthur Miller. The production, which was filmed at CVLT’s River Street Playhouse in 2014, will be available to watch for $15 throughout the weekend via Broadway On Demand. Details and ticketing links at CVLT.org.

Cindee Catalano-Edelman directed THE PRICE, which is a moving drama by famed playwright Arthur Miller (The Crucible, Death of a Salesman). The New York Times called the play “a tragedy disguised as a rummage sale… one of the most engrossing and entertaining plays that Miller has ever written.”

Miller’s story is about two estranged brothers who meet at their father’s New York brownstone to settle the estate and pick through an attic of dusty items before the building’s scheduled demolition commences.

Victor Franz (played by Frank J. Laukiavicius) is the policeman who took care of his father rather than pursue his dreams, while his brother Walter Franz (Bob Fortlage) is the successful doctor who has been gone for sixteen years. Victor’s wife Esther (Chris White) is also present, urgently waiting for her husband to retire from the force and uninterested in taking her father-in-laws’ stuff.

Joining in the messy task of sorting through the Franz family’s junk, both literal and figurative, is Solomon (Don Edelman), a mysterious appraiser and antique dealer who serves as the play’s comic relief while looking for anything of value among the late Mr. Franz’ possessions.

Broadway On Demand will offer access to the video from Friday through Sunday. Patrons may watch at any time via the web, mobile, Roku, or AppleTV. CVLT expects to return to in-person productions with the start of its 92nd Season this fall.

Chagrin Valley Little Theatre is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded through individual and corporate contributions. Our programming is made possible in part by the citizens of Cuyahoga Country through Cuyahoga County Arts and Culture and by state tax dollars allocated by the Ohio Legislature to the Ohio Arts Council (OAC).
